Manifesto TO: In Conversation With Vashtie
The DJ, filmmaker and social influencer spoke to photographer Che Kothari about her life, her work, and what her experience with Toronto has been like.

At 36 years old, Vashtie Kola has done a lot: starting her career in New York just over a decade ago as a music video director, Kola has been at the helm of some of popular culture’s biggest touchstone moments. From turning NYC’s hip-hop scene upside down through her extensive work as a DJ and party organizer, to being the co-mastermind behind Drake’s infamous ‘Hotline Bling’ music video in 2015, the Albany-born creative has established herself an indisputable force to be reckoned with.

Last month, Vashtie stopped by the Free studio in Toronto, Ontario to sit down and chat with local photographer and director Che Kothari. A video of the discussion, made possible by Manifesto TO in collaboration with The Creator Class, is now available in full across YouTube and all social platforms.
