Justin Wu on staying relevant by connecting with your audience, being curious, and having a purpose
Advice from photographer Justin Wu from his gallery event at Free Space

Justin Wu is a Canadian-born director and photographer based in Los Angeles. His work varies from tv commercials to art installations to international fashion editorials. His first experimental film, Coup de grâce, was exhibited at the modern art museum, Centre Pompidou, in Paris in 2013. Following that, his first narrative short, Le devoir, won the 2014 Grand Prize for Best Emerging Director at an Academy Award qualifying festival.

In September 2015, Justin was selected by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to be part of the Emerging Directors Showcase. In 2017, he was a judge for the TIFF Youth Program and Justin’s final short film, Overtime, won the Audience Choice award at TIFF.

Justin and his work has been featured on CBS News, MTV, Huffington Post, Vogue, Elle, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Entertainment Tonight, Le Grand Journal (Canal+), and ETalk to name a few. Earlier this year, he has also appeared as a guest star director on screen alongside Heidi Klum on Germany’s Next Top Model. He has also directed an eclectic mix of talent including Victoria Beckham, Jeremy Irons, Emma Roberts, Willem Dafoe, Elijah Wood, Bella Hadid, among others.

In this edit of his talk at Free Space in Toronto, Justin tells us about staying relevant by connecting with your audience, being curious, and having a purpose.
