TYK is a production and curation company committed to creating unique experiences that provoke emotional responses. Working in unconventional DIY spaces, the aim behind Thank You Kindly’s programming really is audience engagement and active participation.
Whether it’s a panel discussion for female-identifying artists in an abandoned textile factory, or a body-positive queer dance party (disco themed, of course), at the end of the night, you’re walking away empowered, educated, and possibly covered in glitter.
Thank You Kindly and DJ powerhouse Nino Brown recently welcomed New York City rapper and urban feminist Princess Nokia (Destiny Frasqueri) to Toronto for a two day performance-plus-panel talk event. Led by The Fader’s Anupa Mistry and held at Free Space, Princess Nokia covered everything from modern mysticism, dismantling the boys’ club within the music industry, and balancing all the moving parts that make up her truly amazing self.
As TYK puts it: “We were so lucky to host Princess Nokia. Because of Smart Girl Club, because of how she defines herself, because of how she unapologetically takes up space, because of how she communicates her spirituality, her motivation, and her desire for inclusivity. She’s a multidimensional, full and loving person, who doesn’t take shit. She’s inspiring as hell.”
