Tyler Mitchell is an Atlanta-born photographer and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. He got his start making skate videos and photographing music, fashion, and youth culture, receiving his B.F.A in film and television from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
In August 2018, Tyler Mitchell made history after being chosen to shoot Beyonce for the cover of Vogue’s famed September Issue. Tyler is the first African-American photographer — and the the youngest at 23 — to shoot the cover of Vogue in its 125-year history. He was chosen by Beyonce herself to shoot the cover, marking it a moment to remember and a giant leap forward in an ongoing journey to improve diversity.
Tyler Mitchell will participate in a moderated discussion with Toronto-based musician and multi-disciplanary artist, TiKA the Creator, focused on Tyler’s journey as an artist and the rise of a new wave of photographers and creatives that are disrupting the commercial landscape and challenging the status quo.
