2ndcoming: What $70 and a dream will get you
Today's teens are living proof that all you need to create is within your reach — just ask Josue Ngimbi.

It probably goes without saying, but millennials are killing it. They’re CEOs, entrepreneurs, DIY-enthusiasts, and even shooting the latest campaigns for Nike — and some of them are still in their prime of their teenage years. Now more than ever, anything’s possible if you just have hustle. Edmonton, Canada’s Josue Ngimbi is proof enough — trading in his part-time job for a full-time dream is how his clothing brand 2ndcoming was born.

I am from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. I have always had creative thoughts and ideas that I wanted to share with the world, but there was only one problem: I didn’t know how. I knew I wanted to get my messages out in a manner that provoked whoever heard it and understood it; I wanted those people to feel like they were a part of something. I wanted them to give them a voice. This is how 2ndcoming started.

My burning passion for clothing really took off shortly thereafter. I began analyzing what people wore, how they styled their outfits and which trends were “in” at the time. The various combinations different people came up with, the different emotions presented in each ensemble, and the different personalities that came out with each outfit triggered an intense feeling in me. In all, this process made me embrace the beauty not only of clothing, but of fashion as a whole.

I know now that I’m not just “selling clothes”. What I put out into the world defines me.

I know now that I’m not just “selling clothes”. What I put out into the world defines me.

I started 2ndcoming in 2015 at the age of 16 while working at Tim Hortons. At the time, I only had seventy three dollars in my bank account. However, I decided to invest it all into an idea that had the potential to turn into something huge. I did whatever I could to get more money and to add to that small amount of money I had — whether it was racking up bottles to bring to the bottle depot, or doing something I shouldn’t have been doing. I would ask friends to help me out; some weren’t in the position to be able to contribute and some were. I can honestly say at 16 my mindset was already beyond a lot of others my age.

I don’t regret making that decision at all, because being that young and running a clothing brand and business of my own gave me so many opportunities to build up knowledge, and continue to grow (especially through all the trial and error). When I was first starting out, I remember getting ridiculed and feeling so much hate from those who doubted that I’d be able to actually pull off a clothing brand of my own. Luckily, I was never one to worry about what people said about me because I knew regardless that I had a vision which made me keep ten toes down at all times.

Since this project began, I definitely went through a lot of struggles during the process and learned that not everything is going to go as planned. Over time, I taught myself how to use those struggles as a lesson, and as my inspiration to keep persisting.

2ndcoming is my vision of how I see the world today. It’s the new era. I see the brand becoming successful and very known amongst people around the world in the next few years. I want people to understand that they don’t need to hide in the dark when it comes to speaking with a free mind and being authentic.

The 2ndcoming is now. We’re ready.
